Emory Connecting

Emory Connecting

Annually, the OGCA team organizes facilities tours for an estimated 40 Federal legislators and staff, 30 State legislators and staff, and 25 Community Leaders. In addition to bringing government officials to campus, the OGCA team travels across the city, state, and nation to meet and get to know elected officials. Hosting events on Capitol Hill, traveling to meetings throughout the state, and ensuring our visibility at community events share the common goal of connecting Emory to its partners.

Earlier this year, Winship Executive Director Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD, provided a behind-the-scenes tour of the Emory Proton Therapy Center to several Georgia state legislators. Pictured (left to right) is Rep. John Deffenbaugh, Dr. Walter Curran, Jr., Majority Leader Jon Burns, Dr. Samantha Hedrick, Rep. Mark Newton, Dayle Burns, and Rep. Matt Gurtler. The Emory Proton Therapy Center will be the first center of its kind in Georgia to offer patients access to this new, state-of-the-art radiation therapy. The facility will be capable of providing proton beam treatments to patients in five treatment rooms and will be an international leader in proton therapy research. The Proton Center is located just a few blocks away from Emory University Hospital Midtown and is set to open in late 2018.
