Healthcare Advocacy

As Georgia's only comprehensive academic health system, Emory works with elected officials to share our unique perspective on the tripartite mission of research, education, and patient care.

Emory Nurse Legislative Council

The Emory Nurse Legislative Council was honored to welcome State Senator Renee Unterman (R-Buford) and State Representative Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta) to Emory University Hospital Midtown on November 22 for a healthcare advocacy forum. Senator Unterman and Rep. Cooper both trained and worked as Registered Nurses and were subsequently elected to public office. They both serve as the Chairs of the Health and Human Services Committees in their respective chamber, overseeing the hundreds of bills introduced each legislative session that impact Georgia's healthcare system. The legislators shared their experiences as nurses transitioning to elected officials as part of a panel discussion.

Emory Federal Legislative Efforts

As Georgia's only comprehensive academic health center, Emory works with elected officials to share our unique perspective on the university's tripartite mission of research, education, and patient care. Furthermore, Emory is engaged in federal legislative efforts related to the Affordable Care Act. In addition to meeting with our elected officials and key staff, Emory's Woodruff Health Sciences Center has sent several letters up to Capitol Hill voicing our unique viewpoint.
